Common Tides

"Through learning comes a desire to help."
Program Goals

Common Tides is a non-profit company that brings together volunteers that are dedicated, creative, and unique individuals from all over the world for the benefit of children from developing or undeveloped countries. We provide a free hands-on marine science education program that will give these children an experience which will help them gain a greater opportunity to protect, learn, and develop an increased understanding of their environment.

During each trip, volunteers and staff will take children from the local schools out sailing and snorkeling to their aquatic habitats over a 1- 5 day period depending upon the schools needs. Along the way, the staff and volunteers will teach the children about the local reefs and other surrounding habitats. Our aim is to strengthen the students educational background in regards to their marine environments so that the children may one day help develop strategies to protect, serve, and become leaders towards their marine environment.

While the students are on board, volunteers will help the children develop their sailing skills thru daily sailing trips to snorkel spots. Once we have arrived at our destination, students will learn/strengthen their snorkeling skills safely (even non-swimmers). Students will also learn current ocean preservation techniques and theories through hands-on marine sciences classes.  Throughout the trip we will facilitate positive interactions and bonds  between the local children, their teachers and our volunteers.
